The Proto-fest festival in Tortosa offers masterclasses in bandoneon playing, singing, chamber music, choirs, string instruments and orchestras, all given by prestigious national and international figures.

 

The festival will also include a wide variety of instrumental, symphonic, vocal and chamber music concerts, as well astalks on subjects such as the recovery of unpublished musical pieces and the legacy of women composers.

BANDONEON MASTERCLASS
with Marcelo Mercadante

From 15 to 17 July
From 10.00 to 14.00 and 16.00 to 19.00
Price: €170

Marcelo Mercadante, bandoneon player and composer. Studied in Buenos Aires and Paris and currently lives in Barcelona where he has set up several music projects and published twelve recordings. Collaborated with artists such as Joan Manuel Serrat, Miguel Poveda, Sílvia Pérez Cruz and Joaquín Sabina among others. He also teaches music in southern France.
Classes finalize with a concert on Wednesday 17 July.


EARLY MUSIC SINGING MASTERCLASS
with Jordi Domènech

From 17 to 20 July
From 10.00 to 14.00 and 16.00 to 19.00
Price: €240

Jordi Domènech studied piano and singing. He has performed with the most important choirs and orchestras in Catalonia, as well as with internationally prestigious Early Music orchestras and in some of the most significant European music festivals. As a countertenor, he has specialized in Baroque music and sung the leading parts in many operas. He has won awards for piano, singing and composition.

Classes finalize with a concert on Saturday 20 July.


CHOIR AND ORCHESTRA MASTERCLASS (PARTICIPATIVE)
with Francesc Valldecabres

From 21 to 24 July
From 10.00 to 14.00 and 16.00 to 19.00

Francesc Valldecabres enjoys a wide-reaching career in music as the conductor of different music groups in the Valencia area and around Europe, as a musical staging director, and as the programming director of music events, festivals and concerts around Spain. He has released around fifteen recordings of musical heritage pieces from Valencia. At present, he is the director of Música Trobada and the University of Valencia Orfeo choir, and a teacher at the Catarroja Music Conservatory.

These classes are designed for both professional and amateur choirs as well as for individual participants and players of orchestral instruments. Previously unpublished pieces now recovered from archives will be studied. Criteria for participation is based on level and experience in choirs and orchestras.

The classes will finalize with a participative choir-symphonic orchestra concert on Wednesday 21 July.


VIOLA, VIOLIN AND CHAMBER MUSIC MASTERCLASS
with Rivka Golani

From 25 to 28 July

From 10.00 to 14.00 and 16.00 to 19.00

Price: €240

Rivka Golani, born in Israel, currently lives in London where she teaches students from around the world at Trinity Laban College of Music and Dance. Her contributions to the advancement of viola technique have ensured her name a place in the history of the instrument, and have inspired other viola players and composers.

The classes will finalize with a concert on Sunday 28 July.


CELLO MASTERCLASS
with Oriol Aymat

From 25 to 28 July
From 10.00 to 14.00 and 16.00 to 19.00
Price: €240

Oriol Aymat plays a range of very different styles of music. At present he collaborates with the Liceu Theatre orchestra and Camerata XXI, plays in historical music groups, and is a member of chamber music groups and the well-known pop-rock group Blaumut. He has played concerts around Europe, and in Cuba, Israel, Japan, Korea, and China. He has premiered works by composers like Ramon Humet, Albert Guinovart, Hideki Kozakura and Joan Bagès. He has taught music at the Liceu, Vila-seca and Cervera music conservatories.

The classes finalize with a concert on Sunday 28 July.
