Chamber Music for Strings

With Rivka Golani

Sunday, July 26
12:00 p.m.

Admission: €7

Chapel of the Teresian Convent, Jesús

Since the emergence of the violin family during the Renaissance period, composers have explored the many possible combinations of these instruments within the field of chamber music. The search for different textures, tonal colours and expressive possibilities has produced, over the course of half a millennium, an extensive body of music for solo instruments, duos, trios, quartets and other ensembles. A flexible chamber ensemble—led by the renowned violist Rivka Golani—will invite us to enjoy a varied selection of sonorities, styles and composers, including Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonín Dvořák, Eugène Ysaÿe, Dmitri Shostakovich, Sergei Prokofiev, Gustav Mahler and Ödön Pártos.

Rivka Golani is one of the most acclaimed and influential violists on today’s international music scene. Born in Israel and based in London, she combines her career as an international performer with an intense commitment to teaching. She is a professor at Trinity Laban College of Music and Dance, where she attracts students from all over the world thanks to her demanding, creative and deeply musical approach.
