Baroque arias by composers such as George Frideric Handel, Henry Purcell, Nicola Porpora, José de Nebra and Antonio Vivaldi form an essential part of Europe’s vocal heritage and provide a unique insight into the development of Baroque music. These works stand out for their expressive intensity, formal balance and melodic richness. Many of them, filled with virtuosity, reveal both the technical and expressive possibilities of the human voice and the exceptional skill of the performers for whom they were written. This concert, the culmination of the Opera Studio course led by tenor Jordi Domènech within Proto-fest, offers a journey through the creativity, diversity and expressive power of the Baroque era.
Jordi Domènech has worked with numerous ensembles specialising in early and Baroque music. He has sung with orchestras such as Orphenica Lyra, Europa Galante, NeoBarock, La Colombina, Early Opera Company, London Baroque and Al Ayre Español. His career has taken him to Europe’s leading early music and Baroque opera festivals, as well as to major venues including La Scala in Milan, the Hamburg Staatsoper and Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu. He is widely regarded as one of Spain’s foremost interpreters of Baroque repertoire.
