PROTO-FEST TRAINING

Proto-fest has been firmly committed to training since its very first edition. This is why the festival’s general programme of activities includes masterclasses in small groups for bandonean, violin, viola, chamber music, and choral and orchestral voice and performance. The teaching staff will include renowned names such as violinist Rivka Golani (professor at the Trinity College London); bandoneon player and composer Marcelo Mercadante (collaborator with artists such as Joan Manuel Serrat, Miguel Poveda and Sílvia Pérez Cruz); counter tenor and pianist Jordi Domènech (having performed at the Liceu and specialising in baroque music); choir and orchestra conductor Francesc Valldecabres (professor at the Professional Conservatory of Catarroja and conductor of Orfeó Universitari de València); and Mireia Andreu, stage manager and theatre professor.

23 to 27 July10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.Price: €290 (classes) / €390 (classes + accommodation)

Following the positive reception at the Proto-fest 2025 edition, this year the festival once again offers an intensive five-day workshop dedicated to the study of arias by Baroque composers. This programme combines musical and stage training with rehearsals of recitatives and arias under the guidance of pianist and singer Jordi Domènech, along with performance coaching led by stage director and theatre teacher Mireia Andreu. The sessions will feature harpsichord accompaniment by Josep Mateu. The workshop will culminate in a staged performance with orchestral accompaniment, as part of the Proto-fest 2026 programme.

Jordi Domènech has worked with numerous ensembles specialising in early and Baroque music. He has performed with orchestras such as Orphenica Lyra, Europa Galante, NeoBarock, La Colombina, Early Opera Company, London Baroque and Al Ayre Español, among others. His career has taken him to major European festivals of early music and Baroque opera, and he has performed in international theatres and concert halls such as La Scala in Milan, the Hamburg State Opera and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. He is regarded as one of the leading performers in our country specialising in Baroque repertoire.

To participate in this programme, each student must select two Baroque opera arias with their preceding recitative —if applicable— or alternatively one aria and one duet. The works must be written for string orchestra or basso continuo alone and must be performed from memory. Based on the repertoire proposed by the participants, the workshop director may suggest adjustments, propose new works, and coordinate duet scenes. For any questions related to the repertoire, you may contact Jordi Domènech directly at domenechjordi222@gmail.com.

Participation in the masterclass will require a pre-selection process through the submission of a video by the applicant, lasting between 3 and 10 minutes, along with a brief CV. It should be sent to: festproto@gmail.com.

The organisation will contact participants to confirm their participation.
